I’ve Got a Delay (And for Once, Not Because of the Train Company)
The first year is over… and I didn’t make it. Yep, that sucks.
On my resit I scored a 5.3 iconic, almost, but mostly just painful. The past few weeks I’ve been going through a bit of an identity crisis: what now? From the very start I promised myself I wouldn’t go into the “X-class.” Still, in the moment, it all felt like one big failure.
The X-class isn’t really a class. It basically means self-study: the first half year you redo the courses you failed, and then the second half year you move on to your minor.
After some inner monologues, talks with my parents, and the occasional pity-party on my bed, I’ve decided: I’m continuing. No quitting just a refresh.
What that actually means: in the coming half year I’ll get the chance to make up my missing courses. It’s only two exams and one group project, so I should be fine (hello, positive mindset). But still it really was a hard pill to swallow. Honestly? I did not see this coming
.
Of course, I came from MBO, graduating with a “corona diploma” which basically means I only know final exams by word of mouth. On MBO I didn’t have to study that hard; things just went pretty smoothly. Now suddenly I had to actually learn how to learn. And let’s just say… it didn’t exactly go great. I had no clue how to prepare properly for exams and I often underestimated them. Lesson learned (the hard way).
But hey, every downside has its upside (thanks, Johan): now I’ll have a bit more freedom, which means more time to focus on my blog!
I also thought it would be fun to shine a bit more light on my previous degree. I actually did a bilingual hospitality program and got to work in some pretty unique places including a two Michelin-star restaurant. Which is why, after summer break, I’m starting something new: a weekly series called Cappuccino Crisis.
Each week I’ll go cappuccino-hunting in Groningen. I’ll visit a new coffee spot and review one of their cappuccinos plus the atmosphere, snacks, and how chill or study-friendly the place is. I’ll take you along on my quest to find the best cappuccino in the city.
So: got any tips? Drop them in the comments!
Love,
Lotte
